The Grand Canyon

In honor of Earth Day, what better way to celebrate mother nature than highlighting one of her most beautiful features—the Grand Canyon. Located in Grand Canyon National Park, northern Arizona, I decided to grab a few friends and head away to a picturesque winter adventure (pre-COVID 19 of course). 18 miles wide and 6000 feet deep, the canyon is beyond breathtaking! One of the most visited places in the US, it is perfect for nature lovers, photographers or anyone who wants to explore, getaway and/or try something new. Think fresh mountain air, clear skies, snowy scenes from a winter postcard, and most of all grand mountainous views. You’ll leave the canyon feeling in awe of nature or like you just woke up from dream. It’s a memorable life experience that I recommend for everyone!

The Canyon:

The Grand Canyon is estimated to be about 5000-6000 years old and is a result of channels cutting into rock from the Colorado River. The canyon has two parts, the North Rim and the South Rim. To get the full experience I recommend visiting both. However please note, each should be done on a separate day. The park is massive and to fully experience it I recommend taking a few days to do so.

Tips for your visit:

  1. The canyon is located in a remote part of Arizona. Bring extra snacks/food, water, and flashlight.

  2. Please keep in mind the elevation increases and the weather can change rapidly. Increased weather means colder weather, so please bring warm clothing and dress in layers. Additionally, make sure to wear comfortable hiking boots or sneakers.

  3. Avoid traffic! Instead of driving around in traffic, the South Rim specifically offers free shuttle rides.. You can use shuttles to get around the village and to observe some of the more scenic parts of the South Rim.

  4. The park offers ranger tours and camping options in both the South and North Rim. If these are of interest to you please check the official site for updates.

  5. Bring a camera! For Snapchat lovers and Instagrammers the canyon is a post-worthy scene come-to-life. Go ahead and show off your adventures!

Experience the Grand Canyon during COVID-19:

Due to recent events, the Grand Canyon National Park is currently closed for visits. However, the park offers virtual tours of various parts including trails. Feel free to experience the canyon right from the comfort of your home. It’s a tase of what to expect before visiting in person. Cheers!
